There are several good ways to deal with your sadness in such a way that you feel better again. You can smile again or at least become more open to the beautiful and good things in life.

No one escapes life without sadness. There are days when my life is going well, and then something comes up or some memories appear and I get suddenly devastated.

There will never be a time in your life when everything is good. But, life is way too short to go through sad all the time.

This is why I compiled you 10 tips on how to stop being sad. Check them out below.

How to stop being sad?

1. Learn to manage and recognize the good so that the bad doesn’t outweigh the times of bliss.

To understand the secret behind how to stop being sad, remember that life is full of peaks and valleys. What I mean by that is that no one lives a happy life all the time. But in the same respect, no one lives a life that is full of nothing but sadness.

2. Whatever is driving your sadness, recognize that nothing lasts forever unless you let it.

Know that no feeling lasts forever. When you are sad, it is a temporary feeling unless you allow yourself to be consumed. Only you hold on to whatever is driving your feelings of despair.

3. Take comfort in knowing that there is always someone worse off than you.

Whatever is driving your sadness, it’s not nearly as bad as what other people are bearing worse. Take what goodness you can find and realise that life can always be worse. Enjoy what you have, even if it doesn’t seem too good at the moment.

4. Find your humanity by finding the humour or even the irony in how bad things feel and seem.

When you are sad, you probably don’t see the humour in life. Even in the most un-humorous times, you can find some laughter. Laughter is not only the best medicine; It is the thing that makes sad times bearable.

5. Learn to forgive and forget.

If you are constantly sad, then it is very likely that you are holding on to things that are not your responsibility. Like carrying around a backpack full of grievances, if you don’t make peace in your past or forgive things, then it’s almost impossible to find happiness.

6. Make a commitment to change.

Getting stuck is much easier than finding a way to break out or change. If you really don’t want to be sad anymore, you are the only one who can change it.

7. Find out what benefit you get from your sadness.

Sometimes we are sad because we get some personal benefit from being stuck in sadness. Sadness doesn’t come out of anywhere, and if you’re there all the time, then you gain something from it. We behave habitually and have constant thoughts because we get some personal benefit from it. When you find out what it is, you will find your way to happiness.

8. Chase sadness away with someone who’s like you.

Sometimes finding someone in the same boat, and just as sad, helps you chase it away. Knowing you’re not alone and that everyone is going through the same stupid shit is the best cure for sadness. When you feel less alone, you feel a lot less miserable.

9. Realise that without sadness you cannot experience joy.

If you had everything and always in order and perfect, you would have no idea that you were even happy. You have to know what sadness is, to know joy. Without hard times, you have no idea what you’re missing or how wonderful it can be.

10. Stop trying to control everything.

Sadness comes from the despair you when you feel out of control and helpless. You are not helpless, nor can you control things happening in your life. The sooner you realise this and learn to live with it, the happier you will be.

Some of us are hit with a lot more difficulty than others. Some deal with it, some don’t. The key to knowing how to stop being sad is knowing that nothing lasts forever, which is a good thing. Sadness and joy come and go. It’s about riding the bad and looking forward to the joy.

Life comes with drama alone. It doesn’t need your help. So when you pull out the sad, stop, drop the backpack of fear and move on.
